Here’s a news item giving background to the appointment, and subsequent resignation, of former South Australian judge, Brian Martin, as head of the Royal Commission investigating allegations of abuse in Northern Territory juvenile detention centres.
It highlights an important issue with great relevance to forensic transcription and the problems caused by allowing detectives’ transcripts to be evaluated by the jury.
The issue is the failure of the legal system to learn from its own acknowledged mistakes.
